We asked a few of our home theater buffs here at Vann’s for some feedback about home theater gear – specifically, “If you were building out an new home theater system for the holidays, what would be on your wish list?”
Here’s a sampling of some of the items our employees are eyeballing… pretty good choice of gear, in our humble opinion…

LG 47” black 1080p LCD HDTV (47SL80 – Black)
The features keep rising while the prices keep falling…. What a joyous time to be alive.
The latest generation of LCD TV’s have largely eliminated the lack of black levels & color depth, the pixel display ‘jaggies’ that would show up watching fast-paced sports, or a high-speed action scene during a movie.
The improvements have been so good; industry analysts (who ARE those guys, anyways?) are predicting flat-panel TV’s will be large movers for the holidays as people capitalize on the current aggressive pricing to upgrade or add to their existing entertainment systems.
Faster frequency processing, full hi-def resolutions, better color & lighting technology, and more connection options are just some of the pixelicous goodness this TV antes up with. While you can find flat panel TV’s that are bigger, you’d be hard pressed to find any better equipped.

Marantz 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (SR8002 – Black)
Marantz has always been a ‘gold standard’ brand, and they continue to earn this reputation with consistently outstanding products. Just because everybody and their mother are droning on about the latest advances in TV technology, doesn’t mean audio manufacturers have been sitting idle.
About the only thing this receiver won’t do for your home theater is pop the corn.
Seven audio shannels at 125W each? Check. THX Select2 certification? Check. Auto-calibration? Check. Multi-room capable? Auto up-conversion of older media?Check. HD radio? XM Satellite? Blu-ray HD Audio? Check. And. Mate.
If you’re ready to step up from a bookshelf system, or yearning for more than a home-theater-in-a-box, this receiver’s got you covered.

Klipsch Icon X Series Floorstanding speaker (XF48 Gloss Black)
Let’s face it, it’s hard for most of us to get too excited about speakers – we plug ‘em in, we turn ‘em on, we hears our stuff… simple, yes?
These speakers are Klipsch’s ‘flagship’ model (But why ‘flagship’? There’s no flag, there’s no ship…) and have won awards for both design and performance.
Black anodized aluminum, high-gloss black accents and a slim, thin shape provide an ideal visual complement to your flat panel television. But these speakers can bring the wall of sound, too – titanium tweeters, dual woofers with passive radiators and 110W of built-in power amplification make sure of it.
Speakers are the one area in “Home Theater” where style and substance are valued in equal measure. These units from Klipsch deliver both in spades.
We’ve shared a few items that charge our amps- now it’s your turn.
